Plan for Slower Seasons
Relief work can provide flexibility and strong income opportunities — but it can also come with slower seasons.
That’s why understanding your income patterns throughout the year is so important.
Use your monthly and year-to-date numbers to identify:
• slower months
• seasonal income trends
• periods with fewer available shifts
• plans for known time off like vacations or holidays
• upcoming large expenses like CE or license renewals
Planning ahead during stronger months can help reduce stress during slower ones.
Setting aside extra savings when income is high gives you more flexibility and stability when schedules fluctuate.
Freelance income is rarely identical month to month — and planning for that variability is part of running a successful business.
This is something I regularly monitor in my own business and help clients stay prepared for at Out of the Woods Bookkeeping.
Preparing ahead of time creates more confidence and fewer financial surprises throughout the year.
